Hi, we hatched 5 chickens in October, these photos are from approximately 11 weeks... Can anyone help with breeds and genders please![]()
X2Where did you get the eggs? If they came from someone's backyard flock, they are probably all mixes.
For 11 weeks old, going mostly by the comb and wattle development, my gender guesses would be:
I think #1 is male and #5 is female.
I think #3 is probably male but I'm not entirely sure.
#2 might be might be male, but I'm even less sure of that one.
#4 has me stumped for now. I think it could easily go either way-- fast developing female or slow male.

They all look like mixed breeds -- where did you get the eggs and what were the parents?
#1 is male for sure. I'm fairly confident #3 is male. #2 is suspicious.
You'll soon be seeing the pointy saddle feathers to confirm.
They were mail order eggs... The description was this "Mixed variety chicken eggs (breeds include Bovans Brown, Dekalb White, Black Copper Maran, Copper Neck Maran, Black Maran, French Maran, Dark Silver Sussex, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Bresse Gauloise, Brahma and our own hybrid green/olive egg layers."
Chicken 1 is starting to get the pointy saddle feathers. Nothing with the others yet![]()
