Ok. So when i bought a mixed batch of Rhode Red, Barred Rock and "Black Sumatra". Its the "BS" that is in question...and it may be that they are some crossbreed.

What causes you believe the Black Sumatras are not pure? Where'd you buy them? A pic would help.

You have to upload a pic to the website in order to add. Go to your profile, and scroll down to "Your Photos" and click the "Upload Photos" in the upper righthand corner. This allows you to select photos on your computer to upload. To add to a post, click the photo icon on the menu of text options. This will let you add a picture from your album.

Ok thanks for the upload photo information. I will upload as soon as i have faster service.

The reason...ams im not saying that Black Sumatras are mix breed, i mean that mine may because they dont really look like pics of BS that ive seen. Its like their black with brown/red chest and somewhat fades into speckled. -sigh- let me just upload pics lol. Im not sure im describing them corectly. A thousand words do not paint a portrait :p

Were they labeled BS, and you just assumed it meant Black Sumatra? BS could also stand for Black Sexlink. From your description, it sounds like they look like Black Sexlink pullets.

Usually Black Sex Links are labeled BSL rather than BS, however I agree that it sounds like they might be Black Sex Links. If you can post a pic for us, we'd be happy to ID them for you.)

Black Sex Links are usually labeled BSL, but they could have been labeled Black Stars, in which case, they would have been marked BS.

Nah. I didnt mail order them. I bought from a local guy. And i dont thunk he lied, i think its possible he had chickens that crossbred w/o his knowing (somehow).

Would Black Stars resemble anyrhing i described? Lol.
I forgot to mention that on their backs are thin diamond like shapes, the same color as on chest. I guess i could just google it. :p

Black Stars are the same hybrids (RIR rooster X Barred Rock hen) as Black Sex Links. Black Star is an alternative label under which a few hatcheries such as Murray McMurray market their Black Sex Links. Whoever you bought them from might well have labeled them BS for Black Star.
