This little guy wandered into our yard, we're guessing b/c he was chased out of his flock when he got old enough to be perceived as a threat by the alpha rooster. It looks like he's here to stay, having found a nighttime roosting spot in one of our trees.

He's a wonderful little bird, very friendly and curious, but extremely scared of everything, even our hens. I guess he's had a scary life. But we keep him safe & secure and well-fed and he always comes to sit next to us, or even jump into our lap, when we sit in the yard.

The thing is, we have no idea what breed he is. Can anyone ID? One thing we've never seen before is that he has feathers down the outer sides of both legs.

Note that he's starting to molt, so he doesn't have much of a tail in the pictures.

What a cute little guy! Someone bit off some points of his comb, so no wonder he is shy around other chickens.

There are several breeds that have feathered legs and toes like Brahma, French Marans, Salmon Faverolles, Silkies etc., but he looks like a gorgeous mutt to me.

You can treat him for internal and external parasites to prevent a possible transmission to your existing flock.

There are other birds in the neighborhood that have almost identical markings, including a chick-about-to-become-a-cockeral in our neighbor's yard. That's why I thought he might be a specific breeed.

Maybe all those birds just had the same parents.
