I have a lovely little Buff Orp that is almost 4 weeks old. That comb is poking through already although no color to it yet. I dont have a pic because she/he refuses to cooperate with me. can you show me some pics of yours...
thanks

view my byc page. we have 2 BO's that I have pics up (by days old - scroll down to the bottom for baby pics and then scroll up to see them as they grow up).

Can you post pics of yours?

I have a picture of a 5 week old blue orp pullet:

By 8 weeks, here's a splash pullet:

Also at 8 weeks, a splash cockeral:

I did have a couple of "in between" on the combs, but I don't have a pic of them. They grew combs faster than the pullet pictured in the 8 week shot, but not as large as the cockeral. They were both females.

pacey... do you have any fear that Olivia is a boy? That is about the comb that my "eggie" has. I need to try again fro pictures tonight when I am home. They dont like to give you a profile look though.
Another question for you... do yours like the ladder you built in the coop? We are going to add one in ours soon.
thanks

Hi! Both Olivia & Orchid have the same exact comb coming in, and they feathered out REALLY early, which makes me....about 95% certain they are both girls. No roo behavior either (both were ordered as pullets). I'd be really surprised if they were wrong on my only 2 BO's I ordered. When they were younger, I was concerned that they were roos, but the comb seems to have slowed down and isn't red. Our Golden Campine is wayy faster growing in the comb than these two.

They LOVE the ladder roost! Especially coming out of their brooder, they all love to sit on the roost. though it's away from the heat lamps currently so they don't stay too long (still need the warmth bc it's coooold here!).

One of the main reasons I'm not too worried about their gender is due to the fact that they both feathered out really fast. Combared to some "What am I" posts on here that showed older BO's with MUCH less feathering, who turned out to be roos, I am pretty confident they're girls...hope this helps!!
