Can anyone tell me about converting an old car into a coop?

We were thinking of tearing out all the upholstery/carpet inside leaving bare metal & removing the windows & putting in wire in the place of the windows. We thought we'd open the door in the daytime and close them up at night. I doubt we get more than $50 for scrap because it would have to be towed. So it sounds like it might not be a good idea. There was an old building that just fell down in the storm that came through. Maybe we should just use it as scrap lumber for a permanent coop for free rangers. Mainly we want to add a coop for free rangers since we want more chickens, but don't want additional tractors. My husband thought the old car might be neat for a coop. There is also an old milk truck that could be converted, but it would get too hot too, right?

Well since you like in NC, do you have those cotton bin wagons? You can haul those things home, modify it for a chicken coop! You would need to put a roof on it in case it does not have any. Someone in here on BYC had a beautiful cotton bin wagon converted into a mobile chicken coop and they were awesome!

I LOVE that! I have never in my life seen a cotton trailer. Most people around here farm(ed) tobacco. I will have to ask my husband what his aunt and uncle used to haul it in. The farm we live on was a dairy farm until a few years ago. Now we just mainly do hay & lumber. We have several large fields for our own garden & we have my chickens/quail/duck. There are a few buildings that would convert nicely into a chicken coop, but nobody else is interested in doing that;) I like the idea of a large portable coop. Very neat idea! Thanks for the link!

It would be nice to have a wooden structure that could also have a brooder since we are hatching chicks pretty much year round. I would like to be able to put the water & food in from outside & collect eggs from outside & easily get inside to clean it as needed using a deep litter method. Will I want a concrete floor?
