I have heard they are great layers and are pretty docile but then I heard they are better meat birds and can be aggressive???

Mine are wonderful! I have a pair. Big Red and Bessie. She lays great and they are both super friendly.

I have had both hatchery RIRs, breeder quality RIRs and hatchery NHs. The NH girls I had were fabulous layers of huge eggs. They would never be suitable for a meat bird by any stretch, though, as they were fairly lean-bodied. None of mine were aggressive.

The only ones that are agressive are the ones from feed stores, (Their not pure). But,most generally the ones from a hatchery are pure and are the more docile ones, and not near as agressive.
