My Roo Roo has not been feeling well and due to a messy person who has been feeding him, being me, he is kind of dirty and there is something really grossly sticky on his back near the neck.

So can I bathe him?

Yes, chickens are bathed all the time for shows.

comfortably warm waterto the tops of their legs, baby just dab of baby shampoo, use hand to agitate the featers slightly, work gently on the dirty spot, rinse in a change of warm water.

Chickens can only breathe in so much water, so be very careful.

You can definitely bathe your chickens.

I suggest putting your roo in the bathtub with just a few inches of lukewarm water. Use very gentle soap without any dangerous chemicals (for example, you wouldn't want to use dish soap with bleach

). You could use something unscented that is made for human babies. Gently scrub his feathers between your hands and look for any dirt or mites on his skin; be careful not to break the feathers when you wash him. You can use a cup to dump water on him to rinse him or you can use one of those shower sprayer attachments. (Don't spray his face; keep water away from his face).

When he is done bathing, you will want to keep him warm to help him dry off. Wrap him in a big fluffy towel to dry. His feathers will fluff out naturally as he dries, and he will arrange them himself with his beak. if you want, you can also use a hairdryer on a low setting to dry his feathers.

Very cool. Thank you. Do you think it is ok to chip off some soap that I use? It is a tee tree and lemongrass soap, all natural? Would that work or is it better to buy baby shampoo?

Thank you!

I was going to give Roo Roo my sweet ever loving Rooster his bath this morning but he has died.

Almost 3 full weeks and I finally got him to open his eyes and then he died.

So no bath for Roo Roo.
