Hello everyone!
My chicks are 5 weeks old this week, and I'm hoping that maybe I can get some help determining what breed they are and MAYBE what sex? (I know it's early for that, but it's worth a shot. lol) This is my first flock of chickens since I was a young child so I'm learning EVERYTHING all over again. lol

I have 12 so I'm hoping to get their pictures up without confusing anyone (including myself..lol). We got them at TSC. 2 are Black Sex Links(cross of RIR males, and Barred Plymouth Rock females), 5 were in the run marked "Pullets" (possible breeds Isa Browns, RIR, Black Sex Links, and Barred Rock), and 5 were from the the run marked "Red Pullets" (possible breeds: RIR, New Hampshire Red, Isa Brown, and Buff Orpington).
Thanks for any help :)

2,3,5, 10, and 12 are most likely red sex links and they're allvprobably hens since red sex links are sexed easily upon hatching. I ain't too sure about the black ones though:)

Chicks 2,3,5,10 and 12 Look like Golden Comets. I have a few from tractor supply.
Chicks 1,4,9 all look like black stars/black sex links
Chicks 6,7, and 11 kinda look like the GLWs I have a couple that I got a Tractor supply as chicks, they had a bit more red in them though.

I don't know a lot about chickens myself, those are my best guesses though:)

As for sexes, they all look like pullets to me. But, what do I know, I have my own post on here trying to guess the sexes:)

Thanks JackJack. The red ones are the friendliest of the group too...lol..with the exception of one of the black ones that I've named Trouble. lol

LOL Thanks :) What are GLW's? and Golden Comets? LOL Neither of those were on the "potential" breeds list on the sign at TSC. lol Isn't this so much fun? Kinda like when I was pregnant for my babies...it took 9 months to find out each one was! lol Two of the black one's are getting brownish-red feathers on their chests now too. (not sure it that's real clear in the pictures.)

2, 5, 10 and 12 are likely your Isa Browns. Isa browns are a strain of Red Sexlink (RSL). RSL are purely bred to be egg-laying machines.
3 is likely a New Hampshire Red. Note that it has a more even color and no obvious white feathers. NHR are good layers and very, pretty, orange/red birds. The roosters are absolutely radiant.
All the rest, the black ones, are Black Sexlinks (BSL). Another laying strain, they are noted for their exceptionally large eggs. Mine were jumbo layers and threw double yolkers every once in a while.

LeBlackbird,
Thanks so much :) Do you have any idea on when they might start showing clues as to their sex? lol I really don't want to get rid of any of my babies. lol But I also want to respect my neighbors whom we get along with. lol

Well, considering you pulled them out of the pullet bin ("Pullet" is a term used for female chickens under 1 year of age) then there's a 97% chance that your babies are all female.
On top of that, Sexlinks are an "auto sexing" chicken. Isa brown hens are primarily red, where Roos are primarily white. Black sexlink hens are primarily black, although usually they have red or orange feathers in their hackles and breast. Black sexlink males are a messy Barred color. classic "Barred" pattern is basically black and white horizontal stripes on the feathers. Here's a young BSL male (not mine) looking very different from your girls~

Oh thank you! That makes me feel so much better. lol Some of the BSL's are getting reddish feathers around their breast area while most of the others are solid black with the exception of one that has some white on her underbelly area.
As I'm EXTREMELY new to being a chick mom, the term "auto sexing" is an interesting one. lol

I got a lot of the same types of chickens that you got. I too got mine from TSC and rural king. I can't wait to tell what sex they are. It's hard to tell that. Right now
