Thats a slime mold. We get them in the fall sometimes on falling leaves sitting.
It is an amoeba that actually moves. One year, we set up a game camera on a batch we found on an old log. I know, lol it was nasty and we thought it was crow regurgitate from eating frog eggs.
Husband said lets see if they hatch. A couple of days later, he says he thought they moved an inch? I am like what? So we marked the log and sure enough, it moved. Someone told us it was a mushroom fungus and we needed glasses lol but took it to a Botany lab at a university and they told us it was actually an amoeba not a mushroom fungus and can be from white to cherry red balls. Eats dead wood and wetter areas. Harmless but
So nasty looking!
