Front and center. This guy/girl has us confused. They are 8-9 weeks old and the tail feathers on this one point straight up and he/she has a very upright and inquisitive personality. One if our speckled Ameracaunas "came out" as a cock-a-doodler last week but he is a classic roo. No questions there but the other one is ify.
Thanks BYC buds!

Are EEs separate from Ameraucaunas? Also her tail feathers are huge, way bigger than the other pullets. Any idea why that is?

Its an EE pullet. EEs and Ameraucanas are two different things. Ameraucana have slate legs while EEs have yellow or green. Ameraucanas lay blue eggs , EEs can lay blue, green, or pink eggs. EEs do not match the any of the colors that Ameraucanas come in. Ameraucanas have beards and while EEs are suppose to occasionaly you will get one without. Ameraucanas have pea combs and EEs are supposed to, but they don always (I have3 one with a single comb).

You can read about the difference between Ameraucanas and EEs here : http://www.ameraucana.org/faq.html
Basically, EEs have no standard because they aren't a recognized breed. Ameraucanas have 8 standard colors, blue eggs, beards and muffs. Her tail may just be because of her breeding, and whatever genetics went into her.

Yes she is an EE pullet. Looks like most of my 3 girls. Many people call them ameraucana or aracana, even some of the farm stores, but they are easter eggers, which can be any breed mixed with the blue egg gene chickens (EE, ameraucana, or auracana.)

That's probably because of the Leghorn often mixed in to improve egg production. Lots of EEs have big, gamey tails.
