Can Araucanas have tails and no tufts (or muffs)?

I will confirm what others have said: The first bird is not an Araucana. The second one is a rumpless/clean-headed Araucana.

Okay..new news..the person who bought the eggs just PM me and said they MAY have gotten some eggs mixed up during hatching..

So, i agree..the first guy must be a mix of some sort...sorry for the confusion!

Yup, sometimes they do hatch with tails. That is what makes the breed so challenging..and then the tufts too. But that bird in the first pic doesn't have the body type of an araucana either.

Goofball or not, you do know a rumpless bird from birth as the rump can be notice from that moment. Araucana is a term used by us outside Chile. The real terms are Kollonca, which resembles your white boy, Kollonca con aretes (tuffed ears)(Araucanas) and Ketro (tuffed ears and tail). Check the internet for those terms and read as there are other breeds that lay blue eggs other than Araucanas, Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers.
