Can baby chicks survive fall/winter with thier mother hen?

Mine are much older at 8 weeks. It is remarkable how a broody will look after her babies. Now the small chicks don't seem to hang around mom but they know she is always in sight. They will do just fine. Just watch and enjoy it is a great experience. I have noticed the young ones don't think much of the snow. They come out, look around and go back in the coop. The 40 week chickens are not bothered at all.

So glad you asked this question. My two hens are sharing a clutch of 9 eggs due to hatch any day now. We moved them to our big coop, failry draft free but still nto heated. My question now is should we hang a heatlamp from the ceiling or just let them tough it out?

I agree with the other post. They will be ok. If she starts neglecting them then I would consider moving them.

I was worried about mine that just hatched out with my broody bantam....I know I live in Florida, but I still put a heat lamp out there and seperated her and her chicks from the rest of the flock.
