I have lost 6 so far and two are dying right now. I knew some were doing bad but I was suprised to find the two little Brahmas dying when I got home from picking up my kids. They had been eating and drinking and running around. I was really lucky two years ago when we got chicks. We only lost one and it was ten weeks old. I didn't think this would be so hard on me. It is strange to see such a cute little thing stop breathing. Its been a rough day.
You know, I never thought to ask them if they might do that special. I think though that they hatch all of the chicks at the same time and then fill all of the orders.
That's exactly why I can't bring myself to order chicks from a hatchery. Our local feed store is great about letting me add chicks to their order, and the hatchery they use is only about 30 miles away, so the chicks arrive overnight. Unfortunately, they are limited on the breeds they offer, but it's worth it not to have to go through watching the chicks suffer. I know I am very lucky.
Yeah, after hearing all the stories, I think I would be terrified to order mine too. It's so tragic! I also am terrified of hatching too though. If I can't get it at my feedstore, I'll have to live without it. I'm too afraid.
kalisgirl, I'm very sorry you have to go through that. I can't imagine how hard that must be.
Thank you. The good news is that after losing 10 chicks, 17 are doing very good now. I called MM and got credit. The goofballs that are still here make it hard to be sad for too long....the chicks not my kids
