I am dividing my breeds. I'm going to have one pen of bantam cochins and the rest of them are different color silkies. Can I use 8x4 plywood on its side without have to have fence at the top? The pens are inside of my run. They will be protected from hawks and such, just didn't know if I could get away with half walls.

my bantams find their way to the top of my 6 ft fence. I think silkies and cochins tend to be heavier than mine so I don't know...

Sure can. My bantams (cochins) can get to the top of a 6 foot fence no problem. My phoenix rooster could fly like a hawk, lol.

You should probably at least cover the pens because i have had one or two flying cochins two years ago.

they sure can! ive had japanese, cochins, polish, d'uccle and sebrights that could easily make it over a 4' wall.

Okay I went and picked up fence to make the solid wall. It will be OSB plywood on the bottom 4' and the top 2' will be rabbit guard wire. I don't know the measurement of each square I think it's 1x2 or something like that. It was 28" x 50' for $20 and they sold out of deer netting. Should work fine. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we'll be building. Thursday and Friday calls for rain, PRAYIN I'll have it painted by then.

Most bantams can fly WEEE.Cept silkies and frizzles. My Cochin's would fly over 5 ft fence and duckwing's, OE's,sumatra's, can roost in tall tree's, get on you roof etc..You can clip wing's if you don't plan on showing however.
