Can BB gun kill chickens and...?

Ok as a fellow I am pretty sure I will die if I have to cut my own chickens head off. Its not that bad. I thought it was going to be horrid. I had to work past 2 dizzy spells caused by hyperventilating before I actually got to the stump but after that it was doable. I doubt I could do ours for food but I had an injured roo who needed me to 'man up'. I got it done and I didn't get sick, pass out, or have nightmares. All of which I planned on doing beforehand. I am prepared to do it again tomorrow morning as a matter of fact. The axe is quick. Very quick. Make sure its sharp and don't try to close your eyes. You can do this because you know it needs to be done.

Okay, thanks everyone for your responses! Putting it altogether, along with what I've read on the internet, says that the axe is quicker and more humane. I guess I already knew that, but I'd really rather find another way....

I did not know the difference between pellet and BB guns. Different size/type of projectile?

So it sounds like neither BB nor pellet will penetrate the skull, correct? Does this mean that when they do kill, it is because they cause internal bleeding? I wonder how quickly they die, then. For those who have used either type of gun, does the bird appear to die immediately, or does it linger for awhile?

As for putting down a cat, it sounds like a BB or pellet will not be reliably quick. What I read on the internet about killing an animal of that size, is that you would need to aim in exactly the right spot, such as the temple.

So a pellet or BB gun MIGHT be quick and humane for a chicken, but probably not for a cat unless you know exactly where to put it and have really good aim. What do you think? Do I have it right?

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

As a general rule, pellet guns tend to be more powerful, and can be had in larger sizes.

Pellets are hourglass shaped, and BB's are round steel balls.

To get a pellet rifle with enough power to consistantly kill something the size of a cat would cost as much as a cheap 22 rimfire, so it would make more sense to just have a real gun unless you're in town.
