Can black and red sexlinks fly?

i was just wondering, can black and red sexlinks fly? I was planning on putting up a 4-5 foot fence for the run. How heavy are they? And what other breeds are not good at flying?

Red and black sex links can fly but they usually don't because they are more of a on the ground bug hunter bird not a flighty chicken who likes to fly over fences.
Their weights vary but here's some estimates: 4-8 pounds maybe more maybe less.
Breeds that obtain don't fly or are not to good at it are... (Here's a list of non flighty breeds)...

Silkies
Cochins
Barred Rocks
...there's other breeds but I can't think of any more.

Oh thanks! I am putting up a 4 foot fence and am getting them Friday. They are already 6 weeks old so I'm gonna clip the flight wings they have just on one side

I've raised both Red and Black Sex Links for years and they can definitely fly. While they may not be great flyers, I can tell you from experience that they will not have any trouble clearing your 4 foot fence if you don't clip one wing (clipping one wing is actually more effective than clipping both wings as it throws them off balance when they try to fly). Silkies do not fly at all (although they are great jumpers), and Cochins and Orpingtons are very poor flyers.

My 4-week old black sex-links can pop out of a 2 foot high brooder no problem ... I am fairly confident that your birds will be able to jump over a 4-5 ft fence at maturity -- but, I am not an expert! (lol, I always have to add that disclaimer).

It definitely keeps them from frying. Some breeds of chickens can still make some pretty amazing jumps though.
