Can Broody hens raise day old chicks

I have done this with success, and I am an amateur! I seperated my Silkies by themselves to avoid any issues once broody. I knew my broody was ready when she went at me like a pit-bull. I have a broody I gave two 1 day old chicks and the next day she hatched 2 of her own. All of this took place in the barn 2 months ago when the temp was 0. I will say my 2 eggs that were incubated are larger then the 2 she sat on, but that could be that they are from nicer stock... All is well.
