In a bit of a pickle. We wanted to introduce a bigger hen to our flock as our insanely huge pekin drake has been been fairly rough with our smaller mallard hen. We picked up the third duck from a farm that had a big flock of ducks and we picked her - a beautiful cayuga - because her "brothers" the same age as her all had very prominent curly tails and hers were straight.

We've had the duck for a couple weeks now and doing the slow intro deal with our other ducks and she is still fairly nervous - but so far no eggs (except for a random very squishy egg I found in my yard that i thought might have been hers because she was stressed or nervous) and she barely makes any sounds. The person we got her from doesn't know exact age but she's pretty big had all adult feathers, etc.

Well, the past couple of days i've noticed a couple tiny baby curls (not at the tip of tale like my pekin but moreso at the base) and I'm a little stressed :(. The idea was NOT to bring another drake into the mix but a girl to help take some heat off our other duck. Is there ANY way this could be a girl? I really don't want to rehome this duck as i feel like it's been stressful enough. we've had the new duck and our hen together alone several times and the new duck has not tried to mate with our hen, but maybe because it knows the pekin is in charge? Gah!!

here's a very blurry photo, but you can see the baby curl that's emerging :barnie

Sorry, here's another video:

The duck is pretty skittish so hard to get an up close video
Is there another duck in the background making the noise or is it only the duck in the video? I only hear a drake in the video and it's not clear if the cayuga in question made the noise or not.
