Can chickens be an obsession?

Yep. Welcome to the addiction.

OF COURSE IT'S AN ADDICTION !!!! You had to ask ????? At least, unlike coffee cups, you don't have to waste time washing/dusting them !!
Perdue ad ??? That's how it started !!! I saw "Gladys" and HAD to have a Gladys !!! So, I have a big RIR Gladys !!! She came with 5 friends...now I have about 40 big guys.....6 - 8 months and 7 Guineas....6 months. THEN....there's the pair of Blk Silky ducks...about 5 months old, the 5 East Indies Ducks....6 days and about 38 asst chickie
friends.
If I'm not careful my DH will be out there buying a large Rubbermaid container that he can fold me up...or chop me up....and fit me in. I'll be found floating at sea !! :))))
It's a GOOD addiction ! As Martha would say: IT'S A GOOD THING !

It's like that Woody Allen joke...at the end of Annie Hall, "I thought of that old joke: This guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, 'Doc, my brother's crazy, he thinks he's a chicken.' And the doctor says, 'Well why don't you turn him in?' and the guy says, 'I would, but I need the eggs.'...... so there ya go!!!

I started last year just to get "a few eggs" I told myself...well now I have 10 banties, 16 layers & 15 meaties on their way March 10! All my friends joke that I need an intervention

But, after talking with my cousin, who has it way more than me, it makes me feel better

I think the funniest part is when you find another in the chicken obsessed club. Around here not many people raise chickens although the numbers are growing. When you meet another chicken person it's like you met a long lost friend because you can chat for hours talking chickens. Some people think I'm crazy ( yes I'm talking to you, Mom) but I don't think there is anything wrong with showing any person who will look, pictures of my chickies that are on my phone.

you are asking the wrong person here - I am not nor will I ever be addicted to chickens, chicks, incubating or hatching....... er maybe I am just a little, lol.

BTW, everyone else here is too - even if they refuse to admit it.....

I think the thing that helped me realize I needed to STOP is when I hatched out so many chicks/roos on January 1st.

Previous hatches were only 12 chicks each time. A workable group for me. The 41 are keeping me a tad too busy.

Even at that, I'm still planning on what I want to hatch again, even though I know I have no room. Sad but true.

I'm making a commitment to cull everything but the best and then and only then will I remove the incubator from storage.

I'm also thinking about building a bigger coop....
