i have bucket fulls of ash here from the wood burning stoves......my OH thinks i should give it to the chickens to dust themselves in....but first i want to make sure its safe?
its just wood ash..nothing else used in there.......

I dumped some ash in their run & their flinging it all over each other. Crazy birds. I love to watch them bathing in the dirt.

A quick question regarding this - does it have to be pure wood ash or can it be partially from the firestarters (small version of Duraflame). We use them to get the oak going. Also sometimes use lighter fluid. Would this make it unsafe to use in the run?

I wouldn't let them dust in that, they will but inbetween their feathers and skin.

I put an ash bucket full of ashes out for my birds and it disappeared -- I'm still trying to figure out what they did with those ashes....
