I was informed by a reliable source that chickens can not pass gas. And not to feed them beans, cabbage or any type of food that produces this. Does anyone know if this is true? I am just trying to find different types of food to feed my girls.

My chickens will eat just about anything you give them. Including beans and not a single on has exploded from gas buildup.

I feed mine some crawfish heads and shells from superbowl weekend . The yolks were almost a crawfish red color.

i just got three chickens never had chickens before.just wanting to know what kind of food do they eat.and what shouldent they eat.i really love my three girls.i get about three eggs a day.

My 6 hens love cabbage, especially if I hand it from a string in their yard. They peck it, chase it when it swings, almost like tetherball. It is entertaining and tasty for them. They also enjoy watermelon but not cantaloupe, (go figure) and spaghetti leftovers.

Mine LOVE cantaloupe! I love the swinging cabbage idea!

I feed mine everything. When I clean out my refrigerator I give them all the old stuff. Very little goes into my trash. I think for some reason you arent supposed to feed them avocados, potato peels(probably a crop thing) or apple seeds. Other than that as far as I know anything goes. The only other thing I avoid giving them is chicken just because that seemed so wrong. Lol

FYI, there is popcorn in that bucket!

A friend came by to visit and commented on my sad, tired face.
Looked him over and admitted to feeling down, explaining that I had just lost six chickens.

He, of course, was hooked into the fabrication by now. HOW?

I began by explaining that my recent four bean soup sucked and I decided to feed it to the hens. I made a point that one group was most voracious and gobbled most down before the others had a chance at it.

That, of course, did not answer the question about the demise of my chickens.
"GAS," I replied. "Chickens cannot pass gas and the beans killed them". "Jason and the Amethyst Gems were part of the group.

But that was not the worst of it, the discovery this morning did me in. I had woken to no Rooster crowing and no chickens scurrying about so I went into the pen and found them.

What blew my mind. They had all become round bloated soccer balls and were plugging up the henhouse exit door so the others could not get out."

"I was now clearing some land so I could bury them!!!!"

Eyes bugging, I finally had to admit that I had been teasing him and had just sold them to someone else.

Truth to the chicken story. Beans can really make them sick as they cannot burp or pass gas. Not sure if Beano would work.
Cooked beans they can eat and the soup I made was basically good for chickens and not much more. UGH.
