Can chickens eat beef?

Well, as usual, when I have a chicken question, I come to BYC to find the answer, and my question was if I could fee beef to my chickens...after reading everyone's response, I decided to give my chickens my leftover taco salad beef and beans.

As I heated it up, I was thinking about how happy my hens were going to be and was preparing myself to bask in the glow of their undying gratitude for giving them such a scrumptious treat! ( I LOVE taco salad!) Put in it a tray, marched out to the coop, plopped it down on the ground, and braced myself for the mad rush.....and waited....and waited...a few of them moseyed over and tried a bite or two, and walked away...the rest disdained to even try it...I tried to encourage them by poking around it in with my fingers and cooing at them, but they were so not interested...

I guess its true that every chicken has their own palate...and in this case, my girls were not playing ball with the ground beef...too bad, but the cats sure at it up!

Mine go crazy over some things and others they turn their noses up and walk away. They like beef and chicken but aren't really big fans of pork(they do end up eating it but just not quickly). They generally won't eat raw veggies like cabbage but will gobble it up cooked. Must be nice to be so picky!

So it's deer season. I threw out one of the bones with some meat left on it for the cats. I looked out the window later on and the chickens were going to town on that thing. From reading other posts I'm going to assume that it was ok that they ate raw meat. They find raw meat scraps all the time from all the butchering and they haven't died yet. We have died yet from eating the eggs. So I'm guessing we're all good. Correct? I guess I'm posting because I might be a little nervous about them eating it raw.

Birds are designed to eat raw meat--no one cooks it for the crows! They're fine--I've fed mine raw butcher trimmings/innards a lot and no problems.

Except they follow me around all the time and I can't walk anywhere.

Our chickens love cows and pigs, as long as they're cooked. We've never tried raw, but I imagine that they would not mind one bit.

Mine went crazy over deer scraps too. It kept them busy for hours.

:cool:I actually buy extra family size steaks, cook for family, myself, and cut up 2 steaks into tiny pieces, bout a beak full and feed the flock.. They went bananas over the meal. no bbq sauce no salt, no pepper, just the meat.. after all I am constantly stealing their eggs for our own consumption, fair is fair... yes people I love my chickens!!:drool
