I have a lot of extra gourds. I know the chickens like squash and pumpkins. Does anyone know if its safe for them to eat gourds?

The bottle gourd is Lagenaria siceraria. It is a calabash. Some calabash gourds are eaten as food. In Italy, it is known as "cucuzza."

Luffa is a gourd, Luffa aegyptiaca. Yes, you can make it into a sponge when it is fully mature but I've eaten the young fruit, myself

The Turk's Turban gourd is a Cucurbita maxima. That means it is the same species as Hubbard and Buttercup squash.

I think that any of these should be safe for chicken. At least, they are eaten by millions of people.

Chickens love gourds; especially when young and tender. They'll eat everything: seeds included.

I grow Zucca and Bushel Basket gourds just for chicken feed.
