Can chickens eat persimmons and figs?

Hi!

In my backyard we have a fig tree and a persimmon tree. I was wondering are those safe chicken treats?

We don't eat either of them so they just fall on the ground. We do pick them up, but if they are ok for chickens then they can just eat them off the ground.

Yes chickens LOVE FIGS & persimmons.

Why on earth would you let them go to waste? Great food source for you & your chickens. Fresh figs are like eating sugar. I have a small fig tree that I have to keep my chickens away from.

Yes they can eat them!

You can make fig bread, just like you would make banana bread. Just use figs instead, and it makes a wonderful treat. Just make sure you chop the figs well.

At the Point Loma Farmers market in San Diego there is a stand where eggs are sold. They feed figs to the hen they bring each Sunday as a demonstration of what they feed. You should see how they go after figs. Funny seeing that stuff fly.

I feed persimmons to my flock and they love them! Figs, they also love, apples, plums, pears, and Asian pears. All from our orchard, all organic, no spray, worms included

Oh yes. Both figs and persimmons. Persimmons make a great winter source of energy and vitamin C for chickens. I found that while chickens happily ate figs they tended to eat a limited quantity and move on to other foodstuffs. Perhaps they know to limit their fructose intake.
