The bucket keeps the feed pan up high enough that they don't spill the feed. Sand in the bucket made sure they didn't tip it over....Trying to decide the best way to set up feeders for our 10 chickens that wont waste food, and wont attract rodents. Would love to see people's set ups! Thanks![]()
The coop is very secure; it keeps the rodents out for the most part. I had a set of rodents move in last fall. After 7 or so of them drowned in the water bucket over 3 days, I saw no more evidence of them.
If the coop were less secure, I would try moving the table-like platform away from anything rodents could climb and cutting tin cans open with tin snips to use on the legs of feeding platform. Either wrap the legs tightly or make a cone shape like squirrel baffles used on some bird feeder posts. I think those would work better for mice than they do for squirrels.
