My girls loved the seeds and pumpkin flesh. Would they eat a pumpkin slightly rotten (from being carved) or is that bad for them. (First time giving them anything pumpkin)

A little off the pumpkin topic , but close,

black bug feeding frenzy.

I have a stackable block garden that I noticed bugs crawling on it at night. So the next day I removed a couple, many many black bugs . I got my outdoor vacuum and removed all the blocks vacuuming up hundreds of bugs a many centepedes. I would then dump the bucket and the chickens went crazy.

The last side I got smarter and just let the chickens be close. They would snatch up all the bugs so fast I barely had time to put the block down.

I am new to chickens and looking into info on feeding pumpkins as a treat. Would it be wise to cut the pumpkin and leave it out for a bit to collect some bugs on them and then feed them to the girls? I guess it would be an added treat???

Well, peep-le, it's getting to that time again! I grew those ginormous Dill Pumpkins (the small ones are 100 lbs+) especially for the girls, thinking they would be a good supply of supplement food and keep well. It seems Dill Pumpkins retain more water than reg pumpkin--I gave them one that got too mushy, and they were not overly interested. they free range during the day and are not too interested in eating anything in the garden that is established (except bugs).

Has anyone tried to feed Dill Giant Pumpkins? it could be hundreds of pounds of food for the ladies...

My chickens love them but their beaks get really messy I have a rag out their for them to whip their beaks on.

Carved a few Jack O Lanterns this year. Gave the insides and discarded bits to my chickens. They never touched it. WEIRD. Everyone says their girls love pumpkins, but mine? No way. Not sure why, as they LOVE pretty much everything else.

My spoiled girls would not eat the raw pumpkin I cut open for them. I had to bring it in and cook it for awhile, then they gobbled it down but would not eat the seeds.
