are you a man or woman? I ask because a woman's finger should be small enough to check for an egg, but if you're a man with large finger it might be harder.

Neither do I, lol. Glove, water based lube and do the exam. If her vent is too small for your chunky fingers it's possible that she has a deformed vent, which I say once in one of my young pullets.

If there is no egg, you need to figure out why she is straining
