Can chickens have chocolate? I know sugar is bad for them, so I won't be feeding it to them, but I am curious. Any other do's and don'ts of chicken treats would be appreciated as well!

I never give my chickens chocolate---I always eat that myself---LOL. Being serious---I never checked to see--but I do not recall ever giving them any----maybe a slice of cake with chocolate Icing----if I have any thing like that left over---the hogs get most of it.

Given that chocolate is toxic to animals like dogs and cats (though from a quick google I don't see any mention of birds, mostly due to lack of testing it seems) I would not risk it. Beyond that, I don't think there would be any benefit to giving them chocolate that would make me want to try it out.

I was not planning to test it, or give them any, and you are right-there really is no benefit. Just curious! Thanks for your opinions!

Chocolate has caffeine and theobromine, which makes it toxic to many pets, including chickens. So no, they cannot have chocolate.
