can chickens refuse to lay at will?

You guys are awesome!!! I put a box in front of one of the nest boxes, to make it feel a little more private, and I had no plastic eggs, so I put a couple from my fridge in there, and the chickens, including my old EE lined up to get into that one, she laid, as well as 2 of my speckled sussex! Thanks Debid! Amazing...after literally months of fighting with them, thats it? Thats all it took? Crazy.
