Can chickens see in colour?

You can do this experiment to show that they can see color: take a muffin/cupcake tray and place a mealworm (or other treat which they just can't resist) in half of the indents randomly: not in any particular order. Then place over a sheet of thin paper that the chickens can easily peck through, and color in red circles over the empty indents and green circles over the ones with the treats in.
(hopefully) one of your chickens will come over to see what it is and peck one (you can put a mealworm on top of one of the green circles to encourage them to peck the first time, or do all green circles on the first go with mealworms under all of them, so they understand to peck and persevere even if they peck at a red circle on later goes). After a few goes they should learn that a green circle means treats, and a red circle means nothing. Apparently this also works with shapes but I haven't done that one.
I then tried putting mealworms under red circles instead of green circles and they kept pecking the green circles despite them finding nothing in them.

when my chicks were 9 weeks old i was giving them white bread for treats and they loved it and found out whole wheat bread was better when i sat down with the wheat bread my chicks came to me but hesitated a while to eat it and im thinking cuz one bread was white and the other was brown

red and yellow being the main colours which are why feeders and waterers are either red or yellow. its not for us. its for them. i think also ostriches go by colour cause i remember training using red or yellow buckets as signals for entering or exiting their enclosure, when we had some in the petting zoo (before they attacked a worker, twice , and because ostrich steak)
