Can chickens stand the cold weather?

Thanks Den in pen. The heat source is outside the coop and the girls are protected from predators. They just seem to prefer the peak on the roof over their perch inside?

Probably right. I guess if they get too cold they will find their way inside where it's warmer.

There is a cover. We have a roof on the pen and the run is covered by chain link. They are protected from outside critters and they have a place to go to get out of the cold and wind. They just seem to prefer roosting outside right now. We are supposed to get down to 0 degrees for 3 days straight this week. We'll see if they find the warmth of their coop preferrable.

Oh they'll be fine!! It's usually 10-30 here and I don't heat! They are built for the cold! Just make sure no direct drafts...and they have ventilation. They'll be ok

Can chickens 6 mo old stand the 30o cold? I will cover them tightly with plastic and a tarp. DO they also need a supplement heat?

I personally just tarp around outside run to block wind, and I do not heat. Everyone does it differently tho. They are hardy birds and have a warm winter lining...they'll be absolutely fine!
