Can chicks hear through their shells?

Iv'e been playing music in the room where I incubate and keep hatched chicks, the eggs I am currently incubating seem to be responding with peeps and movements, they are at day 24. Could they be reacting to the music? could they react when I talk to them? If they hear these sounds as an egg, will they remember them when they grow up?

They definitely communicate with each other while still in their shells. I had a single hatchling communicating with some chicks I bought to be brooding mates with him. He would cheep and they would cheep back. It was pretty apparent, because they were taking turns with their cheeps. Pretty darn cute.

Day 24 is way late. Are you sure you have the right count?

It is definitely day 24, the incubator and I both counted.

What species of chick are you hatching? If it’s chickens then 24 days is late but if your hatching something like Bobwhite chicks then it’s normal.

If it is chicken eggs, most likely your temp has been lower than what it was reading causing slower development rates or humidity wasn’t right on lockdown causing them to have difficulty hatching out.

Yes, they can hear through their shells. Playing the sounds of chicks peeping, can encourage them to hatch.
