OK so this is probably a stupid question, but when the chick eat their food their stomach swells up so huge that it is no longer covered by fluff and I swear I can see the contents of their stomachs through their skin as well as little thin red veins. It isn't pretty, surely they won't pop?

I wouldn't think so, but I know I worried about my Toast when he was a wee lad. He ate so much he was top heavy. I threatened to get him a bra because he looked like he had rather well endowed breasts when he ate. He is now a rather large, healthy boy that never popped although he sure looked like he should have. What breed are your chicks? Toast is a red sexlink. I wonder if there is any connection to gluttony with breed/gender. one of my other chickens did that, just Toast.
ETA: Maybe they are eating out of boredom (like teenagers lol). My brooder boxes have parakeet toys and mirrors hanging in them to give the chicks something to peck on (besides each other). They seem to like bright colors and small bells. If nothing else, they will get some much needed exercise since they eat so much. lol
Best wishes!
