It was a gravity feeder/waterer...No your duckling did not commit suicide, it simply frowned. Just like a toddler can drown in 2 inches of water - you should get a different waterer; one of the gravity waterers where they only have a tiny opening to get to the water.
Don’t beat yourself up - it happens. Sorry for your losses.
Random... just laying in the far side lifeless & stiff.... Also no bloody poop around and they were very active and eating/drinkingDucklings or chicks drown in even the lowest volume
