Can ducks be with chickens and rosters?

So, I see this thread has been revived and WOW has it gone off the rails a bit.

Haven't had a turducken yet. Wouldn't mind trying one though TBH. Sounds like a great way to pass out from too much meat consumption on a Thanksgiving!

And so I'm actually contributing something to this thread...

To those who have successfully kept drakes in with chickens, please consider yourself to be the exception to the rule rather than the rule. Some birds are just different and things work out. We have a saying of "If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid", but it really needs to be updated to "If it's stupid and it works, you got lucky."

I'm sticking by my original answer, but for anyone who is unclear on its implications, I KNOW that I am the exception to the rule, because I don't have the space constraints most labor under, my management practices differ, I keep very high hen/drake ratios (which is to say I aggressively remove curly tail feathers to freezer camp), I seperate out "the littles", and otherwise minimize opportunities for competition.

My recommendation remains "don't raise chickens and ducks together" (for this, and many other reasons, mostly related to disease and sanitation) unless your circumstances are highly unusual and you are prepared to accept the additional risk.
