hi all,
i am still trying to come up w/ a good pen for my ducklings. they are still in a brooder inside at night and out in a large pen outside during the day. would they be able climb up into a traditional style chicken coop? i was thinking it would be safer and easier to clean if the pen was above ground?
thanks,
lisa

My three calls do. I mean they slip and slide their way up and cuss up something good but they have been using it for a year without any major issues. They go up to lay as well or if they think they will get snoogles if they go up, so they seem fairly happy with it. When it gets wet it can be tricky but they flap and get up in the end!

can u see the door into my Hut... I can take a better pic for u, but they can easily get
up and down.. its just a piece of wood with small boards nailed horizontal for grip..

My ducks have two ramps in their house that lead to second floors for them to hang out in. They go up and down the ramps just fine. You'll have to teach them to use the ramp, but they will get it eventually. Based on the picture, I'm fairly certain our current ramps are longer than yours and our ducks have no problem with the ramps. It's funny watching them slowly steady themselves down the ramp when they come down.

Mine had trouble at first but when I added little slots of wood for her to get a better grib she did it. doesn't mean she always goes into it at night on her own though... grr

My Muscovies live with my chickens in what was originally just a chicken coop. The ramp is a little steep but they all manage just fine..my fat boys even do fine, they just walk sideways to get down it, lol.

I'd love to see them walking down sideways. lol. I think a duck walking down a ramp is one of the funniest things ever...

What angle is that ramp at?... I was going to use the same exact concept with the horizontal boards, with a 3 foot board at 30 degrees. I'm not sure if my ducks would be able to get up it though. Thanks!
