Hello All,

New here to the forum, always reading all the posts but never posting.

I have an Indian Runner mixed with Swedish Blue duck that all of a sudden just started acting very strange. She was fine for the most part until about two days ago.

Currently she is confined to her own caged area and she is not eating or drinking as far as I can tell. She stands and walks in circles and then sits. When she sits her head moves in almost a circular motion from left to right. Almost bobbing side to side.

I have been searching for anything like this and have come up empty. The closest thing I find is a vitamin deficiency so I have been giving her a liquid solution daily of Niacin and Thiamine and added some apple cider vinegar today. She does drink it from the syringe, but I don't believe she is drinking on her own.

This is why I asked about a stroke, is it possible she had a stroke and that is what this whole thing is? It does seem very neurological in nature.

She doesn't seem to be getting better, but she also doesn't seem to be getting worse. However I am worried if she is not eating that she will die. I am going to feed her some liquid food tomorrow along with the vitamins.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thoughts on what this is, what type of food should I give her, etc.

Thank you all,
Phil

What do you feed?...Chicken feed?
Ducks require more riboflavin, vitamins and minerals than Chickens..Deficancy sounds to be the issue?...

Thanks for your reply. You are correct, chicken feed, however she has full forage throughout the property. Also I have 6 other ducks which are all fine currently. I will look at Tractor Supply today for a vitamin pack just for ducks and add it to my therapy for her. I am bringing her in the house tonight to keep her warmer and also to have better oversight to see if she eats any food herself. She did eat some warm mushy cereal this morning...

How old is your duck?

Maybe look for Poultry Nuri drench it can be given straight in the bill and get into her system quick. Just don't shoot anything down her throat she could get it into her air sacs.
Just dribble inside her bill wait till she swallows then do it again. And warm soupy mash is good too.

If it's cold where you are bringing her inside would be the best for her they can lose a lot of body heat especially when not feeling good.

She is less than a year old. I was thinking of the Nutri drench, going to look at Tractor Supply today. She has been drinking when I use a syringe to put liquid in her bill. I know about not shooting anything down their throats, chickens are even worse in that respect.
