Can ducks taste the heat???

You know how people feed their chickens ground hot pepper?? The chickens aren't supposed to 'taste' the heat, but they say it is good for them and it warms them up. What about ducks?? Its 10 degrees this morning with a negative wind chill. I put some ground habanero in warm water and watered my flock. Chickens are Muscoveys. I DIDN"T think!!!!!! The ducks drank it. Are they in pain???? I feel horrible.
