Hi, I was wondering if eggs in the coop can get too hot and go bad? It was 106 here today and when I left this morning there was only one egg and I collected it and then when I got home this afternoon there was another. When I picked it up it was a hot egg. It was not in direct sunlight and I grabbed it out of the coop as soon as I could, but was just wondering if the eggs can get too hot and be bad?? TIA

A chicken's normal body temp is over 100 degrees. If it wasn't in direct sunlight, it may have just been laid before you got there and was pretty warm to the touch. I haven't had problems with the eggs being in the coop for the daylight hours on a hot day, granted the hottest its been here so far has been upper 90s with humidity in the 70% range. As long as you get them that day, they should be alright.

Just collect every day and they'll be fine. It takes longer than that for an egg to go bad.
