Can Golden Pheasants share an enclosure with chickens or rabbits?

Hello,

I have a male golden pheasant and 2 females in an aviary about 3 metres by 5 metres and I would like to put either a rabbit or 2 little chickens in there with them.

Does anyone know if they can co-habitate with a rabbit or with 2 small chickens? Any advice would be much appreciated, I haven't had much luck searching online!

Hello,
I wouldn't add anything in with your pheasants because chickens carry differnent diseases that can harm your pheasants. Also if you ever plan on adding pheasnts to your current space you will have a problem with them attacking the new comer unless you try to place them in another pen so they won't think it's there terriritory and then place them back in after a couple of days.

Thanks Patty, do you think a rabbit would be a bad idea? I was hoping two silkies would be ok, but you think they'd have too many diseases? I don't plan on getting anymore pheasants, it wouldn't be fair on them as my aviary is 3 metres by 4.5 metres.

Not sure about a rabbit but I would think it would be the same. They may peck at it and if it starts to bleed they won't stop.

Exactly,chickens carry diseases which kill pheasants.The chickens can handle it,but it will kill your pheasants over time.They look fine and then one day you go out and their dead,with no signs.

What lenght of time are we speaking of? I ask because I'm new to having pheasants and think it's important to know whether there is a sensitive period or having both together is absolutely a "no-no." Also is the risk only present when having both species sharing a coop or does it include having them in one coop divided in the middle by chicken wire?

they should be alright, as long as the chickens are fairly small and not overly aggressive. we keep a air of F1 red goldens in with two pairs of peacocks, and a bunch of cochin bantams we use as setter hens with no problems
