Can guineas get coccidiosis from chickens?

We are having an extreme outbreak of coccidiosis (eimeria) among our chickens. Nobody has died, but every chicken has had bloody droppings since the weekend. I got the diagnosis confirmed with a lab test, and have been treating with Corid since Day 1 (even before I was sure of the cause). I think they are on the mend, but they're certainly not ALL better yet.

The vet said to keep the guineas away from the chickens, but there's no way to do that. The guineas go wherever they want to, regardless of fences! I did treat their water with Corid too, just as a preventative. I have seen NO signs of bloody droppings from them, even in the shelter where they sleep at night (so a concentrated location for droppings, and I feel sure I would see SOMETHING there if anyone was sick).

But now that the chickens have completed their 5-day treatment with Corid, I would like to let them free-range to get out of the area where the coccidia is so concentrated... Will I be risking illness for my whole guinea flock if I release the chickens?

It is good to keep them separate, but I'm sure that's not possible for everyone. I think you did a good thing by giving the guineas corid too. All you can really do is keep an eye on them. Has it been hot, humid and rainy there in MI? Years ago (I'm in Ohio) I had a cocci outbreak in my small coop w/attached run. I had chicks w/bloody stool and I started them on corid right away, along with an antibiotic to combat intestional infection due to irritation. All of my chicks recovered. I cleaned out their chicken run (dirt) the best as I could and then I poured bleach all over the soil. Let that rest and dry up, then my hubby put in a load of sand in the chicken run, which made it very nice. No more mud or muck. Maybe you could try that? So far you've done a great job.
