Can hens lay random color and sizes of eggs?

Our hens are about 1 year old. I've learned each of their egg individualities but yesterday we found a very small speckled egg that does not meet my hens usual eggs. Can they (since they are still young) randomly lay an odd size and color? They have consistently over the last 3 months laid large sized eggs. This is odd one is so much smaller. Could something be getting into the coop? We do keep the small chicken door open all day, our chickens free range the whole yard so they are not in the coop or run all the time until night.

is that a small hole in the end, or a big speckle? If it's a hole it may be indicative that whoever laid it is or has recently been ill.
In any case, no they don't randomly lay an odd size or colour. Very small eggs are called fairy or fart eggs and are uncommon but happen. Some hens' eggs are sometimes speckled sometimes not (I have 2 who lay such).
If this turns out to be a one-off, no worries. If it persists post again with as much info as you can about your hens and keeping arrangements.

Yes, it can happen, glitch in the spray booth for the change in coating.
Size can vary, another glitch, not sure why.
Don't think that's a fairy egg, open it up and see what's inside.
