Can Human Sulfa be used in an 'emergency'?

Thanks, Sweet! You must have posted while I was doing the same.
I will get the meds ASAP in the morning. I will definitely treat all four.
I have read that I treat for only 5 days. Correct?!?
I hope it works, and is not too late for my sickly one.
"Buffy" is really quite the sweetie!

UPDATE -- Buffy is up and seems to be doing okay. She was eating and drinking on her own last night, and again this morning.
I dripped a little mushed up food, water, and electrolytes into her about every hour, yesterday afternoon.
I gave them all just some plain water this morning. I will switch it out again in an hour or so.

Very happy.
Now, that said, I am thinking that I should still get to the feed store for that medication today.
Should I still treat them all for cocci anyway? Even if they seem to be fighting it off?
Or get the medication to have on hand, and then treat IF they start looking lethargic again?

I'm happy she seems better today.
Thanks for the help!
Cheers,
Stacy

I did some more reading online, as I can't seem to get my hands on any of the recommended meds, here in Tucson. :(
I found one place that will get some Corid in later tomorrow. However, he wants me to buy the entire thing he ordered and it's over $30 and, apparently, enough to treat something like 100 birds. I have 4 babies. *sigh*
Anyway, point is that the Septra DS I have here, for humans, is a sulfa drug for sure. I knew that, but didn't really know how it compared to the sulfa drugs for cocci and birds. Well, it seems that this is used in Europe/England for these types of infections. So, MAYBE, just maybe, I am doing something right by giving a bit of this to Buffy, along w/the new medicated feed, and electrolytes???
She seems better. However, it's a bit like a roller coaster..........she seems better, then not so much, then eating, then in the corner again, then totally 'normal'. *sigh* I am still hoping for the best, but can't help but remain worried.

Cheers,
Stacy
