I am fairly new to the site and new to chickens. I love animals and have always wanted chickens. Now I have them and I am hooked!

I have twelve 6 week old hens, mixed variety. Our local feed store has two 1 week old silkies they would like to give me. My wife wanted silkies so now may be the chance to get them.

The questions I have would be,

If both silkies turn out to be roos will one have to go away?

If one is a roo will he fertilize all of my hens or just the silkie? From what I can see silkies are smaller so I do not know how that effects roo/hen activities.

If I add a roo now will it mess up the pecking order already established? (I can tell there is one already in place with the hens)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your silkies and standards should get along fine. If one silkie is a roo, he will probably still go after all the ladies and not just the silkie hen; roosters do love the ladies. lol If both turn out to be roosters, they may get along (with one roo being the dominant one) or you may have to separate them. However, there's a better chance that they'll get along when the roosters have been raised together. As far as fertilization goes, it shouldn't be a problem as I have an even smaller bantam roo (an Old English Game) who manages to fertilize fairly large hens (buff orpingtons) while still paying attention to his little bantam hens.
