I would like to put a neck band or foot band for my females that is cute and decorative. Can I use velcro bands on them? I would love to use rhinestones, but they might not be safe. Any ideas to keep them looking chic?

I don't have guineas, but I can't see putting any bling on any fowl. It invites others to peck at the shiny decorations and that could lead to real trouble. I understand too that guineas are quite the flyers and runners.....have you thought about what would happen if the neck or foot bands got caught on a tree branch or bit of wire? Whatever you put on them is going to get nasty and dirty anyway. If I were you I'd just let their natural beauty do the shining for them.

Edited to add: And by the way, welcome to BYC!

While everything Blooie says is correct. However, there is a better reason to not buy bling for guineas.

I own guineas, lots of guineas. Too many guineas. I know them well. They are the bane of us responsible poultry owners.

If you buy them bling, they will not appreciate it. They will tell you they have lost it, or it fell off and they don't know where.

In actuality they will sell the bling to buy heron, meth or weapons. They cannot be trusted. They will use the bling to show their position in their guinea gangs. The tougher gang members will steal the bling from the younger ones.

So in addition to the reasons Blooie gave you. Please keep my reasons in mind,

Remember I have owed guineas for years. They are not sweet like chickens od kittens.... They are more like feral wild cats that just want handouts.

Ah, a morning giggle with my coffee!

Thanks for playing with me folks. I know in my heart it's a bad idea! Love the gang reference. I'm sure it will prove to be true. Happy labor day!
