The wild birds in my backyard are always taking the feathers that fall out of my birds. Can a baby chick born from a mom with myco have a resistance to it? I read that somewhere but couldnt find the link when I was looking the other day.

I dont plan on selling birds right now but I would hate to have the option taken off the table because of a myco problem. Like you said most flocks have it but If Im aware that I have it and sell it then I dont feel good about that

Honestly, mycoplasma gallisepticum is present in 90% of breeders flock,I know the truth hurts ....and that's all around the world not only in USA

Here in Romania we have a recipe that controls the transmission of mycoplasma in the egg, this is the recipe: 10 ml Gentamicin Injection 40% is dissolved in 0.8 liters plain water and place the eggs in solution, allow 10-15 minutes.

would this prevent transfers of any diseases in chicken eggs while incubating eggs? more specifically upper respiratory infections?

Recently researching this and thought I’d add what I’ve learned.

washing the outside of an egg does not prevent transmission of MS and MG, which occurs in the yolk of infected hens.

Vaccinating the chick may support them to overcome MS infection if exposed later in life but they also need antibiotics.

Culling the entire flock and waiting a season is the recommended way to stop the spread.
If one bird has it they all have it for the duration of their life. It’s carried in the air, water, clothes, feathers, dust for up to 5 miles. It lives without a host for 5-30 days.

Once infected symptoms can develop weeks or months later.

You can test at the county exentension with a PCR test but the bacteria can hide and then flare up. So false negatives happen. You can manage respiratory symptoms with tiamulin.
If you suspect MS/MG please test and isolate your flock. Don’t sell hatching eggs or birds.
These birds are loved pets and not just a breeding program. People put lots of money into their flocks. Don’t be a selfish loser and don’t spread this. If your birds have signs of respiratory illness - get them tested.
