Can I do this safely?

The one thing I would say is just make sure that you have the space for additional birds. I've always let my broodies hatch and raise chicks in the coop with the main flock - other members keep momma separate. There are very few right or wrong ways to do things imo, so go with what you feel happy doing.
My hopeful plan is to increase the 10X10 run to 10x30. Also to convert the Tractor Supply coop from a supposedly 8 bird henhouse with a 3x7 run to enclosing the entire thing making it only a henhouse in the top half and using the bottom half for deep litter system. Hoping to go from 4 hens to 8. And who knows, the following year I may extend the run from 10x30 to 10x50!

I like your thinking :clap
