Can I do this?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I wouldn't recommend putting a rooster in with three hens of any age if you care about the health of the hens. The recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As they mature and the hormones kick in, too many roosters (or in your case too few hens) will become very hard physically on your hens; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason you really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in this regard. Your hens will be much happier without a rooster around and their lay rate will be better (stress from an over-breeding rooster causes a drop in lay rate). Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

NO at this stage, the rooster is to old(big) to mix with younger chicks. He will be attempting to breed them and very likely injure or kill some. Pecking is normal but, it shouldn't be ignored. You need slow integration methods - - you don't just put them together. You can find articles on "see but, don't touch" integration methods. Even so the rooster will be after the female chicks. If you don't need him for fertile hatching eggs, I would suggest you rehome him.

The only problem would be that once he's about 14 to 16 weeks old, he will be a hormone fueled teenager and the girls will still be a few months from being matured. If a cockerel does not have any mature hens available to breed, he will start breeding the younger pullets. At 12 weeks old, they will be far too small for him to do this without causing harm and injury. It would be best to keep him separate until the girls are old enough, and I strongly suggest you get at least 5 to 7 more girls for him. A young cockerel will over breed three pullets to the point of bare backs and risking injury.
