can i eat chichens that were fed midicated chick feed

medicated usually means antibiotics and antibiotics are bad unless you got a bad bacterial infection. using antibiotics as a preventative medicine is a bad no no in animals and humans because the bug can build up resistance to the antibiotic if it is not used properly. The way i look at it is why medicate if there is no sickness. Everybody should be informed about this. Keep it simple when it comes to feeding our animals children and family.

In this instance the medication in question is simply amprolium. It has a very, very different function then antibiotic's and people need to understand that difference when feeding chicks who are very suseptible to coccidiosis. Amprolium in chick feed actually helps the chick build it's own immunity by controlling overgrowth of coccidia, it does nothing to build cocci resistence, it does not even kill coccidia. It is simply a thiamine blocker which creates an unfavorable environment for coccidia to overgrow and kill the chick. In the meantime chick develops resistence to the existing coccidia. The difference between Amprolium and antibiotic's is night and day, the two are not related.

Why are all these guys drugging these chickens in the first place, aaaaaah preventative medicine. Come on people use your heads. We dont even treat our own bodies that way. Keep things simple. Clean animals, healthy fresh food, fresh water and air. no problem, i think.

like whats with these drugs they tell us we have to give these birds. I think its because thats the way its done in the great big huge commercial chicken factories that are so unnatural that they have to use drugs and ammonia just to keep the bacteria down cause theyre so big. I used to work in one of those places and we processed 8 to 10 thousand turkeys a day and boy o boy them guys do what it takes to protect their name and company. They use lots and lots of ammonia bath for the chicken meat before its packaged. Apparently Russia has discontinued importing their chicken from the states because of the ammonia bathing.

you can probably still eat the chicken but i wouldnt make a habit of it. I dunno why they medicate them in the first place. Thats somthing that the chicken factories do that have 50,000 chickens in a cruel small enclosed unsanitary living condition. Dont ya think

My chickens, i keep the coop clean lots of fresh air and clean water and they are doing great so far. Read up on that Diatomeseous earth. I use that for internal parasites and other unwanted bugs that may attack your birds. its all natural and kill parasites physically not chemically. its also good for all your pets and humans to eat. use the Google search engine and and read up on it, interesting stuff.

Well I'm not sure who you mean by "all these guys" or who "they" are that are telling us to give "all these drugs". Factory farming is a lot different situation then a small backyard flock so yeah, a lot of them medicate preventatively, lots of birds in confined spaces causes problems. That is a whole different discussion. I know I don't have anybody telling me to give drugs to my birds, I simply know the action of coccidiostat medications and I have also seen the results of coccidiosis and so I choose to use them.

Coccidia are present in the environment and most chickens are carrying it around in their gut, so even in a clean environment, a chick who hasn't had long enough to develope it's own immunity to the resident cocci can develope an overgrowth.

i dunno these chickens the hatcheries in this country that have been breeding for us to buy dont sound too healthy. i havenèt had any problems with my meat hens so far but i lost one when its was only a week old. the rest are really healthy. no medicated feed but just some vitamins that ive added in the water once a week. i think what it is is that the hatcheries are doing this masss production of eggs and forcing these poor hens to lay lay lay and the genetic altering thats going on is causing some serious problems in the long run of the health of the animals. Its really scary stuff.

ya, i just found out that bug yer talking about is bacterial and does dwell in the gut area of the bird so im willing to bet ya a dime to a dollar you can rid yer flock of something like that using the Diatomeceous earth. good stuff. Ive been using it for a month now on the floor of the chicken house and their dust bath box.
