Oh my! Please believe me when I tell you that there are alot of guys at a lot of pet stores who have no idea!! Those sweet little guys really need game bird starter!! I know you really care about your new little friends , so please get them on the diet they need.
I know that some folks can seem kinda harsh when they post, but get past that and take the info! I'm glad you came here and can get some good advice from experienced quail owners! They've been a huge help to me!!

Quail need a good gamebird starter of 24% or higher. You can add finch seeds as a supplement and mealworms. Oyster shell is recommended for added calcium as well. You can put that in their dust bath and they love to play in it.

Thanks a bunch! I had my mom read some of the comments to get the right stuff and she went and got some today. She was mad because it cost more than the cat food ha-ha. I had to go look it is 28% protien that says its for quails and turkeys and pheasants. thanks so much for all your help in getting me to buy the right thing for my little quailies. they really really like this new food and i don't have to hit it with a hammer to make it small. it already is super small just right for them to eat it.

lol, try buying what I do each week, 2 bags of gamebirds, 3 bags of chicken, one bag of pigeon, and a bag of dog food lol. Oh then I gotta feed my wife and son because they expect to eat too lol

LOL my cat food is alot more expensive than the $18 for a 50# sack of pheasant feed. In fact I'm thinking about feeding some quail to the cats sometime down the road (if they decide to start laying again).
